CLOQUET - There's a new police chief about to take over at the Cloquet Police Department.
Friday night, the city council approved the hiring of Steve Stracek, who is a 21-year veteran of the Duluth Police Department.
Stracek's most recent title has been lieutenant. He'll take over for the now-retired chief, Wade Lamarande.
Duluth Police Chief Gordon Ramsay released a statement to FOX 21 about the hiring of one of his finest:
"While we could not be happier for Steve and his family; this is a big loss for us. Steve is one of the most dedicated and ethical people I have ever worked with. Cloquet picked a great leader and I am confident he will have a tremendous impact as a police chief in their community."
Stracek starts as Cloquet's top cop Aug. 4.
And also Friday, FOX 21 reported that Cloquet's interim chief and former deputy chief, Terry Hill, is also retiring in August.
