DULUTH - Crews are baking up a storm for an event that will use a hearty vegetable to raise $50,000 for a local nonprofit.
More than 1,000 rhubarb pies, brats and burritos are just a few items volunteers at First Lutheran Church are cooking up to sell at CHUM’s 10th Annual Rhubarb Festival.
The money will go toward the shelter's operational costs.
This year, CHUM will honor the late commissioner Steve O’Neil who was the brains behind the event.
"There will be information on stage, stories about Steve,” CHUM Development Director Mary Schmitz said. “His family is going to be here from Chicago and they're going to get on stage and talk a little bit. Maybe sing some rhubarb songs which is what Steve used to do."
The festival kicks off tomorrow on London Road at 11th Avenue from 9 a.m.-4p.m..
