DULUTH - The National Weather Service recognizes this week as Lightning Safety Awareness Week.
It's the time of year when lightning becomes a concern, especially with outdoor activity.
Experts say to stay indoors, avoid any electrical circuits, taking showers and concrete walls and floors.
If you're outdoors, seek shelter immediately.
NWS Meteorologist Kevin Huyck explained, "Move to shelter as quickly as possible. We actually advise running to shleter as fast as you can. When you're running, you're actually in contact with the ground very little."
That small amount of contact with the ground, actually can serve as a safety measure.
Experts also say lightning can reach temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun, and can contain 100 million volts of electricity.
