Fans Cheer for Runners at 38th Annual Grandma's Marathon

DULUTH - Months of preparation and weeks of last minute touches all led up to Saturday. Grandma's Marathon shut down Duluth as runners made their way from Two Harbors to Canal Park.The cold and gloomy weather didn't stop fans from showing up to the 38th Annual Grandma's Marathon.Fans said, "I'm cheering for my husband.""My dad.""My daughter.""Nieces, nephews, friends."Fans were out in force cheering on family, friends and people they've never met before."It's nice to see the elite come in because it's just, they're amazing the way they run through. We stay here for a long time and watch some of the strugglers. It's hard to watch, but you gotta cheer 'em on and it's fun."Lining the course fans were encouraging every runner.Even former Grandma's Marathon runners say the feel in Canal Park is like nothing else."It's amazing how much support you get when you're actually running. Once you start coming into Duluth there's just hundreds and hundreds of people cheering you on and it's just very encouraging."Folks from all over the country were setting up early to boost spirits near the finish line."We wouldn't miss it; we come early in the morning.""I'm sure it helps them and they feel awesome that they accomplished the 26.2 miles."After the race the fun continues at tents in Canal Park.
