DULUTH - It took more than a decade to happen, but Thursday afternoon Duluth Transit Authority officials had a ground breaking ceremony for Duluth’s new Multimodal Transit Center.
Along with the Maurices tower, it's the second multi-million dollar project to break ground this week.
It’ll include bus loading platforms, 410 parking spaces and more than 40 bike spaces.
The Duluth Transit Authority says it'll cost $29 million, create 500 construction jobs and is designed to connect downtown to the DECC.
"We worked through so many obstacles to get to this point and it's a reality,” said DTA general manager, Dennis Jensen. “I don't think it's really set in yet. I think when we start seeing this building come down then it'll really hit home then."
Expect to see actual construction start next week.
The project is set to finish November 2016.
