Locals Run/Walk to Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence
By:
DULUTH - Dozens gathered in the rain Saturday morning to raise awareness for a cause close to their hearts.
Bells were rang for those affected by domestic violence at the annual Kay Marie Sisto 5k.
Sisto was a victim of domestic violence when she was murdered in 2010.
She is honored with a walk to raise awareness for domestic violence, because she was about to go on a walk with a family member when she was murdered.
"Every time we do one of these sorts of events we're saying we can't be silent about this anymore. No more silence, no more violence, we have to come forth," said Melissa Scaia, Executive Director for Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs.
Minnesota had its highest amount of murders in years in 2013 with 37 murders.
If you'd like to volunteer you can head to Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs on Superior Street.
