'Wear Your Life Jacket to Work' Day

DULUTH - As the ice starts to melt more people will be out on the water. A national campaign kicked off to help decrease the thousands of drownings and boating accidents that happen every year.

Wear your Life Jacket to Work Day is all about showing locals how easy it is to wear a life jacket and how important it is to put one on when you're on a dock or boat.

"Because most of the accidents that happen are because people wind up in the water when they didn't intend to be there,” said Mary George with the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center. “They slip on the boat, they miss their stepping."

The beach house on Park Point will have a life jacket loaner station next month.
