Volunteers Plant Trees to Better Bike Route
By:

DULUTH - Volunteers dug into Superior Street Saturday, planting trees between 10th and 12th Avenue East as part of Bus, Bike, Walk Month.
This section is part of a designated bike route.
The trees offer shade and wind breaks for bikers and are also traffic calming devices.
They planted 11 trees that are Maple, Hackberry and Elm.
"We've actually seen a lot of people biking and walking by as we were planting today and most of them feel the need to say 'hey this is really great, thank you so much for planting trees' so people definitely appreciate that we're putting trees here," said Shawna Mulleneardley with Duluth Parks and Recreation.
This is part of a larger project to better bike routs and bike paths.
The city plans to plant around 400 trees by completion of the project.
