Fitger's Gears Up For 25th Annual 5K

DULUTH- This year, more than 2,000 runners will be taking to the streets in the 25th annual Fitger's 5K run.The race started in 1990, and because this is a special year, they added even more spots than usual.Grandma's Marathon PR director Bob Gustafon said, "The best part the Fitger's 5k is that it's a fundraising race for our young athletes Foundation, which is administered by Grandmas marathon. We're hoping to raise more than 20 thousand dollars through registrations and through sponsorship."The foundation serves five counties in the Twin Ports area and aims to bring the joy of running to children in the Northland."We've been able to raise more than 600,000 through races such as Fitger's, Park Point, and we give that money back to kids organizations ."The funds raised will go toward grants, scholarships and other items.Race organizers say this is a special race because it's all geared toward helping the Northland's youngest athletes.With freezing rain expected Saturday morning, officials say they will be monitoring the situation, but they don't expect to have to postpone the race.
