DULUTH - Through all the snow and cold temperatures the Northland is finally getting a glimpse of spring.
In many places around the Northland it's the warmest day so far this year."I'm very happy, extremely happy,” said Holly Larson. “We're tired of the cold. It's been horrible."
Before the lifts at Spirit Mountain shut down for the season skiers hit the slopes for their last round of winter fun Wednesday."Our scheduled closing date was March 30th so we actually got 10 bonus days this spring which is phenomenal," said Briana Johnson with Spirit Mountain.
The warm temps have the snow looking more like sugar.
A sure sign it's finally time to switch over to spring season activities."We've got mountain bike trails, we're excited to open up the adventure park, we've got weddings," said Johnson.
The Lester Park Golf Course is also in transition."Beautiful, the golf course will be beautiful when we open," Lester Park and Enger Park Golf Course director of golf Paul Schintz said.
Old man winter put them about three weeks behind their usual opening date."We know its coming, there's grass starting to show. We're excited about it," said Schintz.
While mother nature melts all of this snow, course managers are lining up staff, setting up events and preparing for maintenance."Golf will happen in Duluth we just have to be patient once again this year," said Schintz.
The sun's warm kiss already has people making their way to Portland Malt Shoppe for a cool cone or tasty malt."I was actually just surprised that it was open as soon as it was and you don't have to freeze to death waiting in line," said Larson. "I always get the strawberry cheesecake its good."
This weeks also marks the warmest three day stretch since October 12th-15th.
