52-Year-Old Ashland Man Murdered

ASHLAND - It's the second homicide in northwest Wisconsin in little more than a week.The scene is now clear but what happened Monday night has left neighbors in shock.

"I heard the shots and my daughter thought it was fireworks," his neighbor Angela said.

"Worried, I didn't know what was going on," said neighbor Paula Bietka said.

It was inside an Ashland home where investigators tell us 52-year-old William J. Saari was killed.

Now in custody accused of the crime is his 14-year-old son.

"Pretty sad really sad," said Bietka.

This normally quiet street remained barricaded all day as law enforcement stayed on the scene doing a thorough and complete investigation.

"Dotting all our i's and crossing all our t's and making sure it's done properly and correctly," Ashland Police Department Captain Jim Gregoire said.

People who knew the family describe them as loving and call William a stand up guy.

"As long as I've known Bill he was a really nice," said Bietka.

"Whatever he could do for people he would do," said Angela.

They also tell FOX 21 the teenage boy believed to be the killer was troubled.

"I just know that Carol and Bill loved him with all their heart,” said Angela.

Police say the suspect was given medical attention and is now in custody.
