DULUTH - Businesses and community members showed their support for a vision that's been five years in the making. They're backing reviving the half percent tourism tax bill.
Which would generate $15 to $18 million in the next 15 years to fund enhancing and promoting the St. Louis River Corridor.
Officials say so far the legislative process for the bill has gone well.
The bill has already passed the house and senate tax committees.
"What we're asking from the state legislature is simply authorization to make this decision at a local level, we're not asking them to implement this tax,” Duluth Mayor Don Ness said. “We are asking them to say we are going to let the citizens of Duluth and our city council make this decision."
City officials say if the tourism tax is authorized they will seek public input before making any decisions on how the money is used.
