Two Harbors Looking For New Firefighter

Two Harbors- The Two Harbors volunteer fire department held interviews and agility testing today to fill a vacant position.

The department said they were looking for applicants with commitment to the community, the physical ability to do the job, and the flexibility to answer calls.

They also needed one other quality.

Chief Mark Schlangen said, "just being open and being able to be part of the team.That's where we get our strength. The pager goes off, you could be responding to your neighbors, your relatives, your family member. That is definitely a difficult part of being on a volunteer fire department."

This is the first time in two years the department has tested applicants.

Ten were tested for the position, but the chief said there will be more opportunities with the department in the future.
