Center City Housing Partners With Architects to Create Shipping Container Homes
By:
DULUTH - Center City Housing Corp. has found an architect and is laying out designs to make shipping containers into housing for people who are homeless.
Center City Housing, along with Wagner Zaun Architecture, is kicking off the project with a contest within the company for best and most unique design.
"They're going to design a house that I'm sure will not look dark, dreary or not nice to live in because we don't want people to feel like second class citizens that live in it,” explained executive director of Center City Housing, Rick Klun. “We don't want something that the community isn't going to embrace."
Center City plans to build one container and have people who are homeless move in and critique the living space.
If it works out, the non-profit hopes to build shipping container neighborhoods throughout the city.
Construction on the first container is set for May 15.
