DULUTH - It’s a big vision with the goal of starting up a conversation. In August, Duluth’s Mayor Don Ness proposed a plan to fill in the Minnesota Slip to make room for parking.

It included getting rid of the Minnesota Slip Bridge also known as the little blue bridge, and moving the William A. Irvin Ship on the other side of Bayfront Park.

According to Ness, his up-front proposal did its job.

"Over time people kind of see the potential of the area,” Ness said. “We are able to address their immediate concerns and to say, we're committed to addressing the concerns that are out there."

His goal is to keep the cost to taxpayers minimal, and make the experience for visitors in Canal Park one to remember.
