DULUTH - It was a day off of school and 14 inches of snow that's now given two UMD students their 15 minutes of fame.
The "snow swimming" video has gotten more than 100,000 hits on YouTube and 20,000 shares on Facebook.
The guys look pretty different without swim caps, goggles, and speedos.
“People don't recognize us with our clothes on,” laughed snow swimmer, Shane Campbell.
Campbell and fellow snow swimmer Steve Morris took the dive after hours of shoveling their sidewalk.
“No one remembers the snow day where they sat inside,” Campbell said.
Campbell and Morris are college seniors at the University of Minnesota Duluth and didn’t expect the video to get national coverage.
“We had maybe 1,000 likes or so and only a couple 100 shares, and then the shares just started taking off,” Campbell remembers.
The day the snow swimmers made the video, Duluth got 14 inches of snow and it was 28 degrees.
“No big deal though,” Morris said, after he jumped in the snow for a second time. “Just another day in Duluth, another day snow swimming.”
