West Duluth Champion Charlie Bell Dead at 64

DULUTH - The city of Duluth was mourning Tuesday after the death of long-time businessman and West Duluth champion Charlie Bell.
Bell was shoveling snow outside his assisted living business Tuesday morning when he collapsed from an apparent heart attack, according to his son, Chuck.
Bell was a tireless advocate for anything West Duluth, especially the senior community.
In 2003, he ran against former Duluth Mayor Herb Bergson. And then in 2007, he took a run against Mayor Don Ness.
"When he believed in something, he jumped in with both feet and set to work to make a positive difference," Ness said. "Leaders like Charlie don't come along all that often and so it's an even greater sense of loss for our community."
Funeral arrangements are pending. Charlie Bell was 64 years old.
