Duluth Selected as First City for $250,000 EPA Grant

FOX 21 News, KQDS-DT

DULUTH - The city has been selected as the first city to receive a new grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The $250,000 Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant will fund green infrastructure projects to improve water quality in the Lake Superior Basin.

Specifically, those dollars will be spent at the Lake Superior Zoo, the Atlas Industrial Brownfield Park site and Chambers Grove Park.

"In recent years we've really turned our attention to the St. Louis River and have undertaken a number of really exciting initiatives in this corridor," Duluth Mayor Don Ness said. "This grant from the EPA will help to leverage many of the other dollars that are being dedicated to this area."

Similar grants will also be awarded to 15 cities on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes in the next few weeks.
