Duluth Man Arrested After Superior Cab Driver was Stabbed

SUPERIOR - On Thursday, January 30th, 2014 at about 8:00 PM a Courtesy Cab driver was the victim of an Armed Robbery.
The suspect in this incident was a fare that the driver picked up from Lady Vi's, 628 Tower Avenue.
The driver proceeded to an area near the 2600 block of N. 28th Street at the request of the fare.
Once stopped the cab driver was stabbed multiple times in the chest and hands.
The driver believed the suspect/fare was attempting to stab him in the face and neck and also claimed to have a gun and threatened to kill the driver.
The suspect/fare was demanding money but it is unknown at this time if any was taken.
The driver was eventually able to disarm the suspect/fare. The suspect/fare then fled on foot.
The driver was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation into the incident continued into the evening.
The identity of the suspect was developed from physical evidence and witnesses.
The suspect was located on the 700 block of Tower Avenue a few hours later and was taken into custody on a warrant for an unrelated matter.
The suspect is a 21 year old Duluth man.
He's facing possible charges of Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery.
The Armed Robbery charge is a Class C Felony punishable, upon conviction, with a fine not to exceed $100,000.00, and imprisonment up to 40 years.
The Attempted Felony Murder charge is also a Class C Felony and can enhance the term of imprisonment by up to15 years.
Newman is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Douglas County on Monday, February 3rd, 2014.
This is an ongoing investigation so no further details will be released at this time.
These are preliminary allegations and all suspects are presumed innocent by law pending future court proceedings.
