Woman Dies One Week After Sawyer Co. Shooting

SAWYER COUNTY - A New York woman who authorities say was shot by her boyfriend in Sawyer County earlier this month has died.

Investigators say the incident began in the early morning hours of Jan. 18 when they were called to Ray Jay's Restaurant where 52-year-old Kerry Stevenson of Louisiana was reported to be screaming with blood on him.

Police say Stevenson discharged a handgun in or near his truck and that his 48-year-old girlfriend, Claudia Bunny, had a gunshot wound to her head.

Bunny later died as a result from her injuries on Jan. 25.

Stevenson is being held at the Sawyer County Jail on a one million dollar cash bond for potential charges associated with this investigation, including felon in possession of a firearm.
