Families Benefit From 6th Annual More Cowbell Event

DULUTH, Minn. - A Saturday Night Live skit has taken over the Northland.Hundreds of people chanted 'more cowbell' Thursday evening at the Northern Lights Foundation's More Cowbell fundraiser. It's an event that many people look forward to all year long because the acts from numerous community members are a sight you don't want to miss. Performers young and old showed their talents on stage by singing and dancing alongside the Lake City Smokin’ Section band. Of course, every performer broke out the cowbell and the crowd went wild. The Northern Lights Foundation helps local families with children who are terminally ill. Thursday evening’s event especially hit home for a Piedmont Heights family. Morgan Long has battled brain cancer most of her life, and last year the foundation gave her family a grant to send Morgan to her first prom. Her mom says she thankful to live in a giving community like Duluth. "I don't think they have absolutely any idea when they are up there having fun what it's actually doing for families that are going through tragic things," said Morgan’s mother, Molly Long. "It feels good for us now to be able to be giving back to other families in the Northland." Morgan has been through seven surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. Her mother says her positive attitude is helping her daughter beat the odds of brain cancer. An estimated 1,000 people showed up to watch the performers and support families in need. The Northern Lights Foundation organizers believe they beat their goal of raising $15,000 which will help approximately seven Northland families.
