Senate Democrats to put Transportation Funding Plan on Table

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Senate Democrats are releasing a transportation plan that spells out how they would pay for repairs and new construction for decades to come.

The proposal being introduced Monday is likely to cover both the highway system and mass transit.

The debate over the transportation network is shaping up as the biggest fight of the session.

On Friday, Gov. Mark Dayton accused majority House Republicans of ignoring the scope of the problem.

They counter the public isn't in favor of new transportation taxes that the Democratic governor is proposing.

By various estimates, Minnesota's transportation unmet needs are between $2 billion and $6 billion over the next 10 years.
