DULUTH, Minn. - The bitter cold has some Northlanders running to local shelters for winter gear.
The Duluth Union Gospel Mission tells FOX 21 they are starting to see a lot of single men and families coming into their building looking for hats, mittens, coats and boots.
With their supply getting low, sometimes staff has to turn them away."We even had a gentlemen come in with just sandals on and two pairs of socks and wanted to inquire on boots,” said Kerri Hauser with the Union Gospel Mission. “We gave him two more pairs of socks because we didn't have any boots available. Disheartening and it's very sad and I've had to do that plenty of times. My goal is to not have to do that anymore."
People are also coming in for food and hygiene kits.
If you would like to donate to the Union Gospel Mission monetary gifts and winter clothing can be dropped off at 219 East First Street.
