There's More to McDonald than Basketball

DULUTH- For 6 decades, Bob McDonald was a fixture on basketball benches across Northeastern Minnesota. It was in gymnasiums that McDonald made a name for himself, first as a player, then as one of the winningest high school coaches in America.In his recently released book, "Travels and Tribulations: A Coach's Journey," McDonald discusses his complicated personal history, and a love for poetry, painting and pups.Along the way, McDonald and his first wife, Darlene, who died of cancer in 1997, raised 6 children in the house McDonald himself grew up in."I think what I became was a result of an immigrant type family at that time and I relish that to a great degree.  But, athletics was always a part of what our family did," McDonald said.McDonald retired from coaching last March with a career record of 1,012-428.He will be at Lincoln Middle School to sign his book December 29-31.
