DULUTH, Minn. - After months of fighting to keep the Duluth mail processing center open, the United States Postal Service announced it will close for good in April 2015.
Postal officials say there will be no layoffs, but Duluth employees will have the option of relocating, moving into a different position, or retiring.
Long time Duluth postal experts say closing the processing center will cause a major delay in Northland mail."You would have to truck it all the way down to St. Paul. You're going to be the last one in because we're the furthest one away. You're going to be the last one process then you'll have to bring it all the way back up here,” said Todd Fawcett, president of Duluth’s American Postal Workers Union. “Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.”
A meeting happening in the Twin Cities Friday will offer more information about the closing.
