DULUTH, Minn. - A non–profit founded by two friends at The University of St.
Thomas, and run completely by college students, has spread to the UMD campus.
‘Love Your Melon’ is on a mission to improve the lives of
children battling cancer.
For every hat sold, an identical one is given to a child undergoing
cancer treatment.
“It's amazing for them,” said Hailey Lundquist, the team
captain of 'Love Your Melon' at UMD. “They're in the hospital, they're
going through the toughest time of their life right now, they're dealing with
cancer. It's just overall a great day. You get their mind off their treatments
and just hang out with them."
For every 100 hats sold, the team members dress in superhero
costumes and bring 100 hats to children in hospitals around the Northland. More
than 24,000 hats have been purchased and donated since the
organization started just two years ago.
