DULUTH, Minn. – As it’s getting colder and colder every day, emergency responders are encouraging community members to get their homes ready for the winter. They recommend people either install or check the batteries of carbon monoxide alarms. "Always test your CO monitors at least once a month just like you should with your smoke detectors,” said Mark Niemi, assistant chief of the Rice Lake Township Fire Department. "Batteries are cheap, lives are not replaceable, so change your batteries at the same time that you would test your alarms."Officials also recommend clearing furnace vents and running generators in well ventilated areas outside and away from vents, doors or windows of your home.
