Duluth Organist Honored for 50 Yrs. of Playing

DULUTH - Barbara Johnson has been the organist at St. Raphael's Church for the past 50 years. The congregation celebrated the milestone with a potluck dinner. Johnson tells FOX 21 she started playing for the parish after their organist went on vacation and never came back. Decades later she is still there, has made it to almost every Sunday and has no plans of leaving anytime soon."Keep doing it as long as I can, you never know what tomorrow brings,” said Johnson. “So I just figured well if the Lord wants me here he'll get me here and get me home safely to do it again." Barbara also says she has battled many snow storms, sleet and even car accidents to keep her commitment to play the organ every Sunday.
