DULUTH - The year 2016 is when Duluth Armory officials say the building will be fully developed and open for business. The 99 year old building has sat empty for decades, and long-time armory advocates feel they're closer to development now than ever before. From now until mid-December, developers across the country will submit their plans to essentially gut the armory and transform it into something functional."One of the things we're looking at is housing at the front of the building as one option and it would make a great place for like artists, live-work housing,” explained Armory development consultant, Mark Poirier. “That would go well with the theme of kind of the arts center and music center." Armory officials hope to have a plan picked out by spring and, funding dependent, construction should kick off summer 2015.
