DULUTH- November 15th, 2014 marks the opening day for Spirit Mountain.Brandy Ream, Exectuvie Director at Spirit Mountain, said "This is definitely an early opening for Spirit. About 2-3 weeks ahead of time actually."As you may recall, Spirit Mountain asked the city for financial help and received a $250,000 tourism tax revenue. Opening 2 weeks earlier may help bring Spirit Mountain to it's full potential. From super stoked snow bunnies to fresh powder, opening day was a success.Ream said, "We are having a fantastic day. It's been a wonderful turnout and we've had great conditions. It's just an exciting time for us."Although the weather is getting colder, Spirit Mountain gave a warm welcome to several riders at the Grand Chalet."That overall guest experience is really at the top of my mind as well as safety and efficiency. So, if we focus on those few things we are going to have a successful season," Ream stated. With temperatures dropping in the teens, pumping snow was no problem. And, a special thanks to mother nature for that extra push."It's allowed us to be open and we are continuing to make snow and it looks like a good forecast for the next several weeks," Ream said.Several hundred snow enthusiasts were ready to hit the slopes right away. "There was quite a lift line first thing this morning as people were vying for that chair position but it's certainly a good day," Ream said.Greg Owens, 13 year old snowboarder, said "Oh, I was just ready to shred. It was really cool. I couldn't wait. I've been thinking about it for the past week or so."Currently, 3 open terrain trails are open."We are running right now, intermediate and advanced terrain only. So, if you're a beginner this is not the best time for you to come out," Ream said.Snowmaking opportunities are looking promising allowing for more terrain to be open soon."We will be working hard to get that beginner terrain open here soon," Ream said.Spirit Mountain will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.Starting December 1st, operations will run everyday.
