Hibbing Fire Department Investigates Arson

HIBBING, Minn. -  The Hibbing Fire Department responded at 0206 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a detached garage fire.

Fire crews arrived on scene to a single stall approx. 16'x 22' garage with flames showing from the alley garage door.

The fire was knocked down quickly and damage was limited to the garage and contents.

The garage would be considered a total loss along with the contents.

The building sustained fire, smoke, and water damage estimated at $20,000.

The fire is currently under investigation but appears to be arson.

The cooperative investigation is being done in conjunction with the Hibbing Fire Marshal, Hibbing Police Department, and the State Fire Investigator.

The Hibbing Police Department currently has a suspect in custody.

There were no reported injuries for this fire.

The fire containment was successful in part due to the great mutual aide response from the neighboring fire departments.

Chisholm Fire, Keewatin Fire, Hibbing Police Dept,, and Hibbing public utilities responded to assist on this call.
