DULUTH - This week the Lake Superior Zoo celebrated national bat week with fun, prizes and education. Zoo staff say it’s important to raise awareness about the webbed winged creatures because they help out our ecosystem by controlling pests.
"Bats have a lot of myths and the capability to scare a lot of people,” Lake Superior Zoo Director of Animal Management Maicie Sykes said. “We can educate people about how important they are to us and especially in Minnesota with the amount of mosquitos that we produce."
The Lake Superior Zoo chapter of the American Association of Zoo presented a check to Bat Conservation International.
