DULUTH - Traditional military funerals in Minnesota could become a thing of the past after recent cuts to federal funding. The budget for Minnesota’s Military Funeral Honors Program has been cut by 44 percent. The program provides local honor guards the opportunity to attend veterans' funerals and learn the traditional rituals. Despite the cuts, Duluth’s Honor Guard says it will continue to serve families throughout the Northland because veterans are worth it. "To me it is insulting,” said Captain of the Duluth Honor Guard, John Marshall. “It is a slap in the face to all the veterans and their families. It's total disregard and to me it's irreconcilable." The Duluth Honor Guard is asking people to reach out to their local representatives and ask them to reinstate the cash.
