Count in Duluth Will Help Make Transportation Improvements

FOX 21 News, KQDS-DT

DULUTH - Volunteers were out Wednesday counting bikers and walkers in Duluth with the goal of making improvements to transportation.
About 30 people from Duluth's YMCA and the health Duluth Area Coalition were collecting the data.

They'll then pass it on to the Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council and MNDOT.

"In addition to just counting like how many people are walking and biking, we also take note of other information, like whether people are wearing a helmet, whether they're going the wrong way on the street, whether they're on the sidewalk or the street. That's useful information too," said Active Transportation Coordinator for the Duluth YMCA, Shawna Mullen Eardley.

Volunteers say they've seen bicyclist numbers more than double in areas where bike lanes have been implemented.
