Duluth Diocese's Secret Files Asked to be Made Public

DULUTH - Attorneys representing victims of clergy abuse went before a judge to stop the Diocese of Duluth from withholding private files.
Representatives with Jeff Anderson and Associates asked a St. Louis County judge not to grant the Diocese of Duluth a protective order to keep private files from going public.
Attorneys say secret files about priests accused of sexual assault and top officials who helped cover up their lewd acts need to be released for public protection.
"Once the painful past becomes known it's less likely to be repeated in the future,” said Jeff Anderson, with Jeff Anderson and Associates P.A. “Thats the way we believe standing with these survivors, and survivors like Verne, we protect kids."
Representatives for the Diocese declined an on camera interview.
During the hearing they told the judge a protective order is standard and needed to avoid embarrassment and other types of violations.
