DULUTH - Dedicated Bulldog football fans are pulling out their maroon and gold for Saturday evening’s home opener versus Concordia St. Paul. With a new season comes a few new upgrades to the fan experience. Soon Malosky Stadium will be roaring with excited fans, and the team will take the field for the first time this season. When coming to the game on opening night you may notice a few changes. “We're going to have a new inflatable giant bulldog head that the team's going to run through," smiled UMD’s athletic director, Josh Berlo. As Bulldog football fans welcome back Duluth’s boys of fall this year, they're able to do it from the comfort of the new Superior Beverage Lounge. “A buffet, indoor climate controlled seating, some lovely balconies,” listed Berlo. “We've got every option you could want.” The club seats about 100 people and is sold on a per-game basis. Tickets are $55 per game and include admission, an upscale buffet-style meal, one free non-alcoholic drink, and access to a cash bar. Besides the outstanding view, the new lounge is complete with two custom murals. One celebrates the decades of UMD football history, and on the opposite side of the room is a tribute to the team's pair of national championships."Overall it's extremely important for our players to come out of our locker room to a tremendous crowd and energy behind it,” said head football coach, Kurt Wiese. As loyal fans decked out in maroon and gold make their way to the field, the university hopes going to a college football game is a memory that lasts a lifetime. “I think you're going to notice an improved video board, a stronger band presence, and the tailgating is just going to keep growing,” said Berlo. “When you come here it's really going to feel like a big time college football game.”Famous Dave’s and Green Mill Restaurants will be providing food which is also new this year. Green Mill is providing a new Family Four Pack promotion. For $50, fans get four tickets, four slices of pizza and four drinks. Saturday night’s home opener will also be the first time the team reveals their new helmets design. A majority of the upgrades didn't cost the university anything. It was donated by dedicated UMD football fans who come for the experience not just a football game.
