Panel Suggests New Rules for MN Capitol Guns

AP

ST. PAUL - Gun owners who want to legally carry weapons into the Minnesota Capitol could soon have to provide more precise information to authorities.
An Advisory Committee on Capitol Security voted 3-2 on Thursday to recommend a change to state law.

It would require people with handgun permits to alert authorities they may be coming within a weapon at least once every five years.

They would also have to supply personal data and permit data.

It would replace a process where notifications are valid indefinitely and little data about the gun owner is documented.

It's part of a report headed to the Legislature for consideration in coming months.

The report also seeks to boost the presence of troopers and security guards around the Capitol complex.
