Court Set to Release John Doe Documents
MADISON, Wis. AP - A federal appeals court is poised to release nearly three dozen files in a lawsuit over an investigation into Gov. Scott Walker's 2012 recall campaign and a host of conservative groups.
Prosecutors have been looking into whether Walker's campaign illegally coordinated with conservative groups during the recall. The prosecutors are using a so-called John Doe procedure in which information is tightly controlled.
U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa has halted the probe after Wisconsin Club for Growth alleged in a lawsuit that the investigation violates the conservative groups' rights. The prosecutors have asked the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to review Randa's decision.
The court plans to release 34 electronic files of sealed documents in the case on Tuesday unless someone files a motion seeking to keep the records secret.
