MADISON, Wis. AP - Police across Wisconsin will be focusing on catching drunken drivers during a special enforcement action that begins Friday and runs through Labor Day.
Nearly 400 law enforcement agencies are participating in the campaign.
The effort will be backed with statewide television and radio messages featuring members of the Mad Rollin' Dolls roller derby league
Wisconsin is the only state in the country where first time drunken driving is a traffic offense and not a crime.
The state Department of Transportation reports that fatalities from alcohol-related crashes have dropped 47 percent in Wisconsin from 348 in 2003 to 185 last year.
