700 Emerald Ash Trees Down in Superior

SUPERIOR - Since confirming the infestation of a pesky beetle, the City of Superior has chopped down about 700 ash trees.
Officials with the Forestry Department said they will replant a wide variety of trees to prevent a future attack of Emerald Ash Borer.
"People can replant them themselves with a free tree permit from me if they don't want to wait,” said Mary Morgan with the Superior City Forestry. “But we do intend to replant areas where ash has been removed over time. But it may not be exactly the year after, its going to take us a few years to catch up."
Superior's Forestry Department is also issuing permits to people who want to treat their trees affected by the bug.
The city will begin cutting down more ash trees this fall starting in the areas of Butler and Caitlin.
