DULUTH - A University Minnesota-Duluth football player is recovering after police said he was stabbed in his abdomen this weekend.
Running back Austin Sikorski, 22, was hospitalized after a street fight happened just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday on West Superior Street near Lake Avenue, according to police.
The fight apparently involved alcohol and a public altercation, police said.
A 22-year-old man has been identified as a person of interest in the crime, but police said no arrests have been made.
The university responded to the incident by issuing a statement:
"We are aware of an incident involving a UMD student and are in the process of gathering details. Our primary concern at this time is for his well-being. The matter is being handled by the Duluth Police Department."
Sikorski is in stable condition.
