DULUTH - The City of Duluth has submitted its application for the Georgetown University Energy Prize competition.Duluth, along with other communities with a population of 5,000-250,000, will battle it out to see which city can reduce its residential and municipal energy use the most in 2015 and 2016.
Project leaders believe the $5 million prize will go a long way in Duluth."If we look at our residential energy use, if we were to drop that by 6 percent a year we would actually as a community be saving $5 million every year,” Ecolibrium3 CEO Jodi Slick said. “So we look at this competition as being the $5 million in change opportunity."
Project leaders say if Duluth is selected to compete in the Georgetown competition, they will work with community members and organizations to come up with a creative and innovative energy saving plan to use for the next 2 years.
City leaders will find out this August if Duluth is selected for the challenge.
If so, they will start the competition January 1.
