ASHLAND - A new cell phone company in Ashland is handing out free cell phones.

It's through a company called Budget Mobile, and if you're on any sort of low-income assistance like food stamps or social security then you can get a free phone.

The basic plan is equipped with 250 minutes of talk and text.

In just two days, the company has handed out 40 free phones.

"We have a lot of low-income individuals here, and it's nice to have a telephone to have employees call,” explained Budget Mobile agent, Mike Vandvusse. “If that's the one thing that they're missing to get that job, that's what we offer."

The phones run off the Verizon network and are good for a year.

For more information you can stop by the Shell gas station in Ashland, or click here.
