DULUTH - If you're looking to adopt a puppy in Duluth, chances are you won't find one.
Veterinarians tell FOX 21 Duluthians have done such a good job at spaying and neutering their animals, that now there aren't enough small breed or young dogs coming into the shelters to keep up with the adoption demand.
Vets also say if you are considering buying puppies from a breeder or online, make sure you do your research first.
"Unless you can meet the parents of the dog or get a veterinary reference or talk to other people who have adopted, I would be really cautious of where you adopt from," said Dr. Amanda Bruce, a veterinarian at PetCare of Duluth.
Duluth has the first stationary spay-neuter clinic in the state of Minnesota.
