Homeowners Face $35K in Damage After Duluth House Fire
DULUTH - It was an unfortunate start to Christmas morning for some Duluth residents.
At 3:30 a.m. this morning the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 619 E 5th St.
Upon arrival, smoke was observed coming from the 2nd floor window on the east side of the structure.
The fire was located on the 2nd floor kitchen area.
The fire was knocked down quickly, and crews remained on scene for over an hour to complete overhaul.
The homeowners awoke to the smell of smoke, and tried to extinguish the fire with a bucket of water.
They quickly evacuated the building and waited outside for our arrival.
The owners advised us of a cat and dog inside the building.
Both animals were rescued and are recovering after receiving medical attention on scene.
Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $35,000.00.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
