Duluth Police Hold Torch Run For Special Olympians

FOX 21 News, KQDS-DT

DULUTH - As runners prepared for Grandma's Marathon Friday, Special Olympians and supporters raised awareness for their biggest event of the year.

15 officers with the Duluth Police Department carried a torch on an 8-mile run through the streets of Duluth.

The ritual is in its 13th year and a way to show athletes that the community is behind them.

"It's for a great cause. Obviously when you see the special Olympic athletes you realize the impact this has on them and their life," said Police Chief Gordon Ramsay.

150 athletes from Duluth will be participating.

The Minnesota Special Olympics kicks off in the Twin Cities next weekend.
