If you're looking for a bike, a pair of skates, or even a trophy, this is the place to be.
Stewart's Bikes, Sports and Trophies has been since 1906 although it used to be very different.
"It started as a key shop and then it evolved into a sporting goods shop," owner Steve Meyer said. Meyer bought the place from the Stewart family back in 2000.
The store used to be in east Duluth before moving to next to the Heritage Sports Center a few years ago.
"Originally that's why Stewart's opened where it was over on the east side because the curling club used to be there and they wanted to be right around all the hockey activity," Meyer said. "We felt the same way with the Heritage Center opening up here."
Being next to the action on the ice is key to the business. And Meyer tries to provide the same sort of service the Stewart family made the business known for.
"Mr. Stewart was known for helping out a lot of youth hockey players, sponsoring many teams, going to a lot of hockey games and being a part of the hockey community," Meyer said. "That's one of the traditions we want to keep on." Another tradition that's been kept is what's said to be some of the next skate sharpening around.
"We get people coming back all the time and they say 'hey I can't get my skates sharpened anywhere else,'" Meyer said.
And these sorts of memories are passed down among generations.
"We actually still have some of the benches," Meyer said. "We have dads coming in and telling their kids this is the same bench I was sitting on when I was getting fitted for skates when I was your age."
So if you're looking to hit the trails or freshen up your skills on the ice, why not take a stop into Stewart's to get something new from a place with a style that's old?
