Minn. Capitol Restoration Plan Moving Ahead

FOX 21 News, KQDS-DT

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) _ Now that the full funding is in hand, the architectural and construction team steering the Minnesota Capitol restoration project is seeking the go-ahead for the next phase of work.

The Capitol Preservation Commission, led by Gov. Mark Dayton, was to meet Monday to consider the latest work package in the multi-year renovation project.

As a sign of how substantial the renovation is, the commission will hold its hearing away from the Capitol because the governor's office is about to be relocated for the duration of construction.

Elements up for consideration include the remaining demolition and some structural work.

Some exterior stone work will also be discussed.

In May, lawmakers approved the final installment for the $272 million restoration. It is due to be completed in 2017.
