SUPERIOR - A same-sex couple from Superior became the first in Douglas County to get married Monday. Alvin Berg and Vince Nelson have been together for 30 years.
They own the Flame Nightclub in Duluth and Superior.
Shortly before the ceremony, they never thought this day would come, so they acted fast and headed right over to the County Clerk's Office to file for a marriage license.
"Very excited and it's really a last-minute type thing, but we've been together for 30 years, so it's been a long time coming - so we are really excited about it," Berg said.
"To me, it's all about equality and being treated the same as everybody else. It's about time that people just recognize that ya know. We're just like anybody else," Nelson said.
The couple said they wanted to act fast in the case that the courts would overrule the judge's ruling that the gay-marriage ban in Wisconsin is unconstitutional.
