Superior City Council Approves Hiring Consulting Firm for $30K

SUPERIOR - Some Superior city councilors scratched their heads Tuesday involving a vote to hire an outside consulting firm for city business.
"The city employees, in my opinion, have not had the proper reward," said Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen.
The council approved the hiring of Carlson-Dettmann Consulting at a price tag of $30,000.
The firm will compare wages of city employees to other cities in Wisconsin and also analyze if city employees are making what they should.
They will distribute questionnaires for employees to fill out and will judge wages on job experience, age and years of experience.
Mayor Bruce Hagen explained this is necessary and ultimately it will be the council reviewing the study and making final decisions.
"So, the study isn't all inclusive in itself. It's basically a start for a report from a neutral party that would bring that and then council would be the dictating authority, or the deciding authority, as to what they want to do with it," explained Hagen.
The hiring of the firm was discussed at the May 20 meeting, but was tabled.
Some councilors still had questions.
"My question is in reference to reviews at the end and stuff like that. Is that in your $30,000 or is that gonna be tied to an extra visit to Superior in travel expenses?" asked councilor Dan Olson.
Spokespeople from Carlson-Dettmann were at the meeting to answer questions from the councilors.
In reference to Olson's question, they said extra charges would not be added to the bill because councilors had voiced opposition to that.
He also added in no cases would city employees wages be lowered.
It was approved by a vote of 6-4.
